This was taken shortly after the first repaint into NBC standard livery - albeit using the previous italic block fleetname, which being straw coloured, didn't show up particularly well on the white roof. On this occasion the red paint had been continued up to the window line, which accorded with the NBC corporate identity specification, but did little for the appearance of the vehicle.

CWO287K - RD3872 - Abertillery
If my memory serves me correctly, this stop was known as Abertillery, Christ Church, and it was probably the one immediately before Foundry Bridge. The notice in the bottom nearside corner of the windscreen reads 'On hire to Western Welsh', which seems a little curious, as all of the services in this area were licensed to both R&W and WW. At one point several of the services were transferred to Jones, as part of an exercise to facilitate the co-ordination of the fares, but I don't think this had anything to do with that process. Presumably the vehicle had been lent to Crosskeys depot.

Another photo of CWO288K in almost original condition. I don't think ECW would have delivered it with the front valance in that particular form!

The straw coloured block fleetname didn't really stand out on the cream background either, but the red waistband on these vehicles was not wide enough to accomodate it.
